WEEK 1 ROUND-UP
All three senior teams began their campaigns last Saturday, and as a club experienced mixed fortunes.
The 1st XI took on newly-promoted Trentside, and the newcomers didn't pose too many problems, being bowled out for 127 with Nick Birds the pick of the bowlers with 4/6. The 1st XI struggled initially in the run chase, with Neil Thurlow and Matt Dowling both failing to score, and it took an 84-run partnership between Duncan Player and James Dakin to ensure victory, with both batsmen scoring fifties, and Brailsford winning by 5 wickets.
The 2nd XI travelled to Rolls Royce, and were looking for an opening-day victory under new skipper Ian Clarke. Brailsford batted first, and posted 148/8 in their 46 overs, with Ian Fraser scoring 43, and Michael Taylor scoring 30. Tom Gadsby took an early wicket, but from thereon it was relatively simple for Royces, as they knocked off Brailsford's total in under 30 overs for the loss of 3 wickets.
The 3rd XI took the trip to Awsworth with a fairly inexperienced bowling attack, and this showed with Pankaj Puri conceding 22 wides in his analysis of 2/52 in 11 overs, and 45 wides in total being gifted to Awsworth as they posted 188 all out in 37.3 overs, with Nick Morrell taking 5/32. Brailsford were reduced to 42/3 in the run chase, but 50's from Puri and Andy France steadied the ship, with Brailsford reaching the 189 they needed in 47.3 overs, and victory on the opening day by 4 wickets.
